A very merry Halloween! [Mingle]
Date: 31st of October
Characters: Open!
Warning: Non-sexual desecration of formerly buried corpses
On the morning of Halloween, when people first step out of their houses, they will almost step into something.
A bucket of water. Every flat and every house in the Mossgate Boundary has a bucket placed in front of its entrance door (and sometimes, especially in Folkton and Moss Manor, the back door too), in which scary apples are floating. A little sign taped to the bucket reads: Have fun bobbing!.
But that's not the only thing that happened. The second thing that people will notice is that there are billions of spiders of all sizes crawling all over the town and villages, the military base, the Manor House... everywhere. And they certainly did their job - trees, lanterns, the higher attractions on the pier, and everything else that is high all over Mossgate Council is covered in thick layers of cobweb.
And lastly... those who pass by a church will notice something about the graveyards around them. Namely, that someone placed skeletons on top of most of the graves... Awfully real looking ones. Really, really awfully real looking ones. To some of them, the soil of the graveyard still clings, and the graves underneath them are in a state that betrays that they were dug up during the night. DNA tests would show that, indeed, the skeletons belong to the individuals buried in the graves.

Those are real bones
[ Seth is walking past a graveyard when he sees the skeletons. He smiles a bit, makes note of the time, and then trots on in to check one out. ]
Marvelous craftsmanship, and a wonderful Halloween prank. Really, this is quite funny...
[ And then, he examines them a bit more closely. And realizes. Oh. These aren't dolls. They're. Hm. ]
Eh?
[ It takes a moment for it to sink in, and he goes pale white before scrambling backwards. ]
What the--!? They're real! They're not dolls or toys...!

Mary Ann starts the day by knocking over the bucket as she tries to get to her car.
It spills all over the doorstep, her feet and the bottom of her trousers, and she trips and falls, dropping her bag into the water as well as herself. She'll definitely have to change after this before she can go to work.
So everyone around her part of Mossgate will be greeted or awoken by some very loud and colourful cursing as she scrambles back to her feet and tries to at least save her bag from soaking through.
B.
Not much later, Mary can be found just... staring.
Staring at the cobwebbed landscape, puzzlement in her expression.
"...But why the trees?" she asks her general surroundings as she tries to reconcile a memory that she only just gained and the cobwebbed in trees.
B!

You know what all those bones on the graves mean?
ALL THOSE BONES. It's a bit hard to decide. But in the end, one just has to make a decision.
Somewhere in a graveyard, a tiny white dog is dragging a femur across the grass, heading for a quiet corner.

Sadie had spent the night before sleeping over at Ben's house and so the two of them were going to head to college together on Halloween morning. The Sixth Form College was doing a Halloween-themed fancy dress for charity and Sadie was taking full advantage of the opportunity to not have to wear contacts. Sadie was going to school as a witch, a traditional witches hat is perched atop her blonde curls, and over the black jeans and t-shirt, she's wearing a full-length navy cloak with bell sleeves embroidered with delicate gold and silver constellations
Arm linked with Ben's, who was also dressed in his own costumer, the two make their way towards Town Centre and the Sixth Form College beyond, taking their time as they'd left early enough to make the stroll more leisurely.
B
Sadie is heading back home, without her boyfriend, and after navigating the web-filled covered town centre passes the church graveyard. The skeletons were clearly visible from the pavement and Sadie can't help but go in and have a peak.
"I wonder who did all this..."

Sam doesn't step in the bucket, but he does trip on it coming out of his house that morning, and winds up stumbling and then sprawling out on the porch, amidst lots of cursing and grabbing of barked shins and elbows. The bucket eventually gets moved to the sidewalk next to the porch, and he stands glaring at it, and looking around for anyone else who might have left it there-- or other houses that have been visited by the same prankster.
II. Spider hunting
That's. That's a lot of spiders. Sam is mildly disturbed by the number of spiders there are out and about, to be honest. He's also suspicious. This has been an extremely weird few months, even without the whole network thing. He doesn't trust that this is remotely normal.
So he's trying to track where the spiders came from, and where they're going, if they're moving in groups or singly, if they have a particular or unusual scent compared to spiders he's seen in passing (not that he's really super familiar with spider-scent yet). Since he's retired, he doesn't really have much else to do. It takes up quite a bit of time, trying to track spiders, and means he might pop up anywhere in town that the spiders are or have been.
He will eventually wind up trying to climb something to get at one of the messes of cobwebs, probably a tree, but possibly something less typically climbable. Depends on the spiders.
III. Those old bones
In his spider-tracking, he does in fact pass the church graveyard. And he can't help but notice the skeletons, and how they both look... and smell... very real. He has friends and family buried in that graveyard, and if someone's desecrated their graves, he's going to be angry. He stalks in through the gate to check his wife's grave, first.

Leaving Sadie to sleep a few minutes longer, knowing she needs the rest as she recovers from the imprint of her last Echo, Benjiro had slipped out from his bedroom early to head downstairs and to the kitchen. As he is fixing up a breakfast to take back upstairs, he glances out the window into the back garden at the trees. They appear to be coated by something that looks like cotton candy in the dark. He frowns at the sight, and leaving the breakfast ingredients to wait, heads for the front door to step outside in the dark and check the front of the house with his first thought being that his great aunts and himself had been pranked. He knows Folkton and Moss Manor village have a thing but come on, it’s too early… He won’t have time to take it down until after school, but he can at least assess how bad it happens to be as he flicks the switch to the porch lights and steps out.
Benjiro is met with a rude awakening when his foot plunks straight into the cold water bucket with apples rather than the step down at the door. His foot never touches the bottom as he yelps in surprise and hops right off the porch. Landing smoothly in a crouch, turned a full way around to face the porch, he stares at the odd bucket. One shoe, foot, and ankle now wet and cold, he frowns sourly at the bucket as he stands and walks back, but the expression transitions to one of uneasiness as he spots the appearance of the apples floating inside. Scooting the bucket away from the door with his foot, he then walks out into the front yard to inspect the trees there as they have a similar glossy covering. Now able to see better with the porch lights, his eyes widen as he is left dumbfounded by the work of the spiders.
B (OTA)
After school classes are over for the day, Benjiro heads on the train back to Moss Manor village. Rather than heading straight to the house of his great aunts, he heads for the local Anglican church – or more specifically, the graveyard. His aunts had initially informed him of the development in the morning, leaving him to follow it on social media, and he felt the need to see for himself when his aunts had been distraught by the desecration of the graves. Stripping off his costume on the train to roll up and tuck into his backpack, he switches out to wearing a hoodie to stay warm with the temperature starting to drop.
When he arrives at the church, he heads right for the graveyard to see what remains of the disturbed burials from the outside of the cordon of police tape.
After spending some time there, he’ll stroll around the village to further examine the spider webs and look for other signs of activity.

Feste enjoys Halloween a lot, but this is... weird. They were kind of excited and curious about the apple bobbing until they got a good look at the apples, which are a bit disturbing to put it lightly. But what catches their attention more as they head out are the thick, glistening cobwebs. Those are also weird. That should not be a thing.
But why do those feel familiar?
The feeling puzzles and fascinates them, and they can be found just standing there, staring up at the dew-touched cobwebs with their almost otherworldly aura.
B
And then there's the graveyard.
They have to pass by the church on the way to school, and they assume on first pass that it's just an extension of whatever weird prank is happening. On the second-- "What. Hang on. Are those actual--???"

On the last day before half term break, Nel had participated along with every other student in her class in making 2-Liter bottle terrariums. The clear plastic bottles had been cut in half with the lower half given a vertical slit of 2 cm to assist in folding the plastic inward so that the top could be applied to seal it with relative ease. In the base of the bottle, the children had filled them with stones followed by a thick layer of moistened potting mix. One by one, Nel had poked a number of seeds down into the dirt and covered them up with the arrangement made thoughtfully in respect to what she expected to come out of those seeds.
Since taking it home, that same terrarium has sat on her bedside table under a window for light, and she has carefully checked it every day to water it as the soil showed need for it. The project would eventually be revisited at the end of term to see how well all of the plants had grown. Days have passed without signs of the seeds germinating above the soil…until today.
Waking under the shine of the morning sunlight, Nel rolls over in her bed to look towards her nightstand with no expectation of anything new. Only this time, she spots a speck of green at the edge of the dirt she can see. In a flash, she’s out of bed and has both hands clutching at the front edge of the table as she peers at the new sprouts that have pushed up through the soil. She did it! She helped them grow all on her own!
Her proud smile fades as she feels her insides wither. Dizziness sweeps over her, and her grip on the nightstand slips under the shock of her heartbeat slamming in the emptiness, and she falls to the floor with a resounding thud that carries downstairs.
On Halloween – A (Open to family)
In the morning, Nel had woken up early to start getting ready for the day. Terrarium attended first, the plants within have grown shockingly fast over the last three days and nights. She has trouble closing it back up after watering them as she has to gather the leaves of the already matured plants back inside carefully so as not to catch them under the edge and tear.
After that, she’s getting dressed in her Halloween costume for the day. She had worked quite hard to fix the straw to strips of cloth to wear on her wrists inside her long-sleeved dress and in her socks along with a straw collar. Tan gloves tugged on, they would keep her hands from itching while stockings protect her skin under her socks. Fake fabric patches had been point stitched to her dress, and with a slightly oversized straw hat, she feels ready to spend the day as a scarecrow with only a few touches of face paint.
On Halloween - B (Open to all!)
After school, the redheaded scarecrow can be found running around all over Moss Manor village and even later in Mossgate as she trick or treats with a large group of friends from school. Every so often, she strays away from the group to examine the spider webs and spiders along with more mundane Halloween decorations.
The webs are great, but she could definitely improve some of the ornaments. All of her favorites are captured with a small digital camera she has for her artwork. The more elaborate or clever costumes of anyone out will also catch her attention. However, Nel is wise enough to ask permission to take a picture before retrieving her camera from her treat bag.

OTA Shenanigans! Can do stuff set before Halloween too if desired.
So.
There's a full bucket of water and apples at the door. While Walter's able to just keep himself from falling in or over it, he's still very much taken aback.
His reaction isn't quite "!", but it's close.
Spiders and the Webs:
Out and about, Walter's trying to gauge just how far the spiders' shenanigans go - preferably without having to step on quite so many of them! He's likely just walking or biking past, but he wouldn't be opposed to help from a familiar face.
At least the bucket isn't teleporting through space and time
That would be terrifying, tbh.

<Action/Network>
Nope. No. Nuh-uh. Jim is already on the goddamned Air Force One to 'Fuck This Shit, Texas' as soon as he sees the spread of Cobwebs that have appeared overnight all along his windows and door frames.
This is his house, you eight legged motherfuckers, and he will douse the whole thing in petrol, sit in the middle of it and light a match if needs be. Not today you little shits.
Anyone walking to and from the train station today might spy a man dressed in his Pajamas, work boots and a hardhat (Safety-first) absolutely demolishing the spiderwebs around his house with Jerry-rigged flamethrower. (Okay, maybe not so safe.)
II.Network.Written Text
Hey. Hey guys? Hey. FUCK SPIDERS.
III.Halloween Evening.
It's safe to say that after that whole debacle, Jim really isn't in the mood for going out to any parties. He's never been one for the whole holiday to begin with, and frankly, hearing about the things that are going on outside, he feels vindicated about his opinion.
Instead, he's going to binge watch netflix on his sofa.
If anyone wanted to come and get him, this would be the time to do it.
