A very merry Halloween! [Mingle]

Date: 31st of October
Characters: Open!
Warning: Non-sexual desecration of formerly buried corpses

On the morning of Halloween, when people first step out of their houses, they will almost step into something.

A bucket of water. Every flat and every house in the Mossgate Boundary has a bucket placed in front of its entrance door (and sometimes, especially in Folkton and Moss Manor, the back door too), in which scary apples are floating. A little sign taped to the bucket reads: Have fun bobbing!.

But that's not the only thing that happened. The second thing that people will notice is that there are billions of spiders of all sizes crawling all over the town and villages, the military base, the Manor House... everywhere. And they certainly did their job - trees, lanterns, the higher attractions on the pier, and everything else that is high all over Mossgate Council is covered in thick layers of cobweb.

And lastly... those who pass by a church will notice something about the graveyards around them. Namely, that someone placed skeletons on top of most of the graves... Awfully real looking ones. Really, really awfully real looking ones. To some of them, the soil of the graveyard still clings, and the graves underneath them are in a state that betrays that they were dug up during the night. DNA tests would show that, indeed, the skeletons belong to the individuals buried in the graves.

"Because, uh... It's more authentic-looking," Russell offers with the voice of an experienced stagehand.

But under that he's not sure either, and he steps closer to the nearest grave, intent on putting this particular mystery to rest. There's no seams of imperfectly sealed plastic, each and every bone seems to be in place, and the dirt of the grave proper is worryingly disturbed. He sways in place, feeling faint and nauseous.

"Yeah, I know that." Feste is on a film project right now and has done their fair share of props work, "But outside? For a prank?"

Feste watches him as he sways, looking worried. "Are you alright?"

Somehow it's easier to keep from falling over, even with the dizziness, as though he suddenly weighs less and gravity's working less to hold him down. Whatever the reason, it's convenient, and it gives Russell the time to shake his head after the hollow pressure fades.

"I, uh, I'm fine. I just..." It's probably not convincing, but he's not about to explain to a stranger what he just experienced, at least not without knowing they're going through similar things. Not even as he struggles to separate what he just remembered from what's been happening. "Did one of those skeletons move?"

"What?" Feste looks back towards the skeletons, unsure. "I... I don't think so..." But if one did then they very much do not want to be there when it moves again. This has 'bad horror movie' written all over it and they are far too pretty to make it out of that process in one piece.

"Uh.... Okay, then, I'm likely daydreaming Maybe it was... a cat. Near one of the graves." Graveyards are probably a popular cat destination, Russell figures, and make as good a cover story as any. He wouldn't know for sure, since graveyards aren't really his kind of hang-out location... in this lifetime. But he's already remembered some kind of friendly fish monster. Why not living skeletons. Just in case, he does a quick skim over each of the skeletons in view for signs of motion, just in case.

That does not make Feste feel any better. "Maybe... maybe we should leave and tell someone that it all got dug up. Just in case." They do not want to be here if skeletons are moving ok thanks.

It's still not clear from this distance whether those are actual skeletons that have been dug up with uncanny speed and efficiency, or even more surprisingly realistic props... But either way?

"Right. Yes. This is a problem for the authorities, this sort of widespread... thing. And maybe exorcists."

"Yeah. So we should. Go get those." And get the heck away from here. Like. Right now. Before the zombies show up.

"I'm just going to..." Russell pulls out a mobile and takes a picture or two, the better to communicate what has happened to any authorities he does seek out. If it's time enough for zombies to find him, at least he'll have documented hints as to the disaster's origin. Or something like that.

"Right..." That's probably good. Pictures are good. Even though Feste really doesn't want to be here, they also don't want to leave this person alone if the skeletons start moving again. So... they'll just awkwardly wait until Russell is done.

"There," Russell concludes with a final tap, then pockets it and looks Feste's way. "Right, then, I was heading this way, before..." He nods his head up the sidewalk, regrettably still along the wall of the graveyard, but the nearer of the corners to sweet, zombie-less freedom. Is that the way to Feste's destination, or is it time to politely part ways?

"I was heading towards the studio." Feste jerks a thumb in the opposite direction- time to part ways, apparently. "Uh. Please don't get chased by skeletons?"

Russell laughs a little, with the edge of knowing it's a ridiculous request and yet, they couldn't be sure. "You too, you too. And do what I plan on, if something does happen - find some large dogs to hide behind." Dogs love bones, they're probably the best natural enemy of walking skeletons.
