Don't pet them, grab them! [Mingle]

I.
In the afternoon on the 25th, a network message alerts the Numbered to the fact that the petting zoo in Moss Manor's Menagerie is facing a major break-out: Someone has torn down the fences, and all the bunnies, sheep, and all the other animals typically found in petting zoos have decided to book it. They are now swarming the manor's grounds.
Due to the staff being nowhere near enough to catch them all, and due to the generally low threat level of the animals that escaped, visitors are asked to help catch them instead of being sent away.
And anyone who just happens to show up and help will be happily welcomed and included in the fort, without any question of who told them that help is needed.
II.
Afterwards, Lady Margaret Camilla Brassant invites everyone onto her patio and offers refreshments - tea, water, little sandwiches, cake and scones with clotted cream and jam. She retires quickly herself, but not before giving a brief speech thanking everyone who helped save the gardens from hungry mouths.

Chihiro hadn't really planned on leaving the house today but she had caught the Network message and - while she didn't respond - though it would be nice to get out and help out catching some animal friends. She would check in with a staff member, then head out to the grounds to see what kind of trouble she could catch, entirely unprepared for this experience.
II
Going and capturing the animals for the petting zoo was certainly eventful, and she may even dare to say she had fun. She had found a spot to sit with a tall glass of ice water with lemon and a plate with a couple of little sandwiches of varying types and a scone.

"Um, excuse me! Hey, are you free to help?!"

"Sure! What do you need me to do?"
She headed towards Sadie so they didn't have to call quite as loudly to each other to talk.

"Um! Well, I'm trying to corral them towards the pens that way," She points over to the left, then has to lunge quickly as one of the goats tries to use her momentary distraction to make a break for it. "Shit! As, as you can see it's a job for more than one."
"I'm Sadie by the way, thank you for coming over to help."

"They seemed to have called an entire army out here to help round up these creatures - there looks like there's so many of them!" Chihiro moved around to help cover where Sadie couldn't be, keeping an eye on the goats in case any tried to make a run for it. She grinned to Sadie after getting into place. "I'm Chihiro! Thanks for giving me an easy place to jump in and help, I was a bit lost."
She saw a goat trying to stray away and encouraged it back into the two person corral. "Okay, we move together, then? Take it nice and slow?"

She starts moving in tandem with Chihiro at her prompting, scootching forwards, arms wide as she keeps pace with the other girl. "Nice to meet you Chihiro. Ah, from what I've seen you wouldn't have been lost for long. There are a lot of escapies."
The dwarf goats are now moving in a bit more of an orderly fashion, but remain a bit flighty. "So...are you form Mossgate?"

Whenever Chihiro notices a goat try to flee, she jumps in place to discourage it from breaking away from the group. "This certainly is a mess, isn't it? Everyone seems to be running around in quite a panic. I wonder what happened..."
She glanced up at Sadie at the question. "Uh-huh! Parents moved here for work originally, I'm Mossgate born and raised. What about you?"

The two of them are making decent progress with their small herd, none of the goats has managed to make a break for it yet. "The guy who was shouting about the escape...he said he saw some people destroy the fencing. I don't know why someone would do that though?"
"I moved here from London about half a year ago. My Dad's from Mossgate and he wanted to be closer to the family." She shrugs her shoulders awkwardly. "It's a lot quieter here, but I suppose it's nice to be right by the sea."

Chihiro obviously didn't realize that it was the dog that had been shouting about for help. Did anyone?
"Ooooh, I like London! I wouldn't want to live there because it's so busy but it's so lovely to visit!"
The goats seemed to actually calm down quite a bit and seemed content to follow the girls to their pen. So long as nothing surprising happened to spook them Chihiro was confident that this would be a nice and easy trip.

She smiles at Chihiro, "A lot of people say that. But growing up there, that was always the best bit. You never ran out of things to do. We lived next to so many interesting people in our block of flats too, the smells of all the different foods and the sounds of the different languages. I miss it a lot."
The rest of the goat chivvying goes by uneventfully, as they start to approach the keepers with their hoard.

Chihiro nodded at what Sadie said on London. "That's true. Sometimes, growing up in Mossgate, it could be a little dull. You do the same things all of the time, though maybe a big portion of that was just going to the same places all the time rather than trying new things. I just think I'd feel a bit overwhelmed there... Though I'm sure if I was born there it'd be different."
Despite loving Mossgate (boredom and all), Chihiro sometimes wondered what it would be like to live in a place such as London or Tokyo - somewhere with a lot of people and an impossible amount of things to do. How tiring!

She lets out a sigh of relief as the keepers take the goats from them. "Thank you for your help, I'm Sadie by the way." She holds her hand out to Chihiro to shake."
II
Still, getting to know her seems like a good idea, so he moves his introverted self on over with a sandwich and scone of his own.
"Hey," he greets, knowing he sounds awkward and exhausted (yet he knows he's not tired from all the running about), but still managing a bright smile.
"I'm Walter. I don't think we've met?"

"Hi there! I don't think we have - I'm Chihiro!" She quickly gathered her things up to make room for Walter. "It's nice to meet you! Please, take a seat and rest - wrangling up all of those animals was quite a task! I'm glad so many of us were here to help; it's quite a coincidence, though, isn't it?"

"I don't think all of us live around here, no," he says.
"I mean, I don't, but someone did ask for help, and... thought I'd stop by."
He gives a wry smile and a half-shrug.

"I don't live around here either, had to catch a ride in to come help. I think it was a day well spent, though."
She paused to take a drink of her water, then spoke again with her voice lowered so only Walter could hear her.
"This may be a little crazy but I got like this voice in my head saying I should come here to help? Maybe it was just a dream I had and it turned out to be right..." She was clearly nervous as she took a bite of one of her treats just to shut her mouth.

At Chihiro's explanation, though, his eyebrows go right up, and he lowers his own voice in his response.
"Directly in your head? Not- on a radio, or a laptop or anything?"
If so, then this one was outright novel. ... And definitely worrying.

"I-I must have been on the phone or something! Haha. I get bored during the summer, the days blend together, and it's been so hot. I-I'm probably mistaken."
Ugh, this sucked. She had been going through large number primes testing some algorithms on finding them and had iterated through one that happened to be her number and heard the network call for the help on the petting zoo, though she didn't add to the conversation. She just showed up to help.

"The thing is, though, you're not alone, whatever the truth is. Can you remember what you were doing when you heard the call for help?"
Since the number can be inserted on anything, there's bound to be an answer if they just dig back.
"I mean, it has been hot, but that's almost normal for this season."
'Almost', because Global Warming is very definitely a thing.

"I was looking up 'large' primes to analyse derivation algorithms and methods." She said large to imply that they weren't actually that big - 20 digits wasn't really anything of significance, but any number in the quintillion range was obviously large as far as most people were concerned.

"For school, or for fun?"
There is no shame in either answer, Chihiro.
"Either way, it does make sense how you'd manage to land on the Network using that."
And him saying it aloud, even quietly, might give Chihiro some comfort.

"...It was for fun. As much as I'd like to say it was for school."
She couldn't help but give a sigh of relief when Walter spoke about the Network. She knew she wasn't the only one who had the Network or anything, but it still made her feel better to say it out loud. There was something gratifying about it.
"Oh, good - I'm not crazy." She laughed softly. "I'm not senile either." The joke coming from her first Network conversation with Sam. "...Is that how you were asked for help, too?"

"Math-and-Science geeks unite?"
It was gratifying. Group secrets had that power to them...
"Be kind of worrying if we were of the age to go senile. Think this is a separate source of worry."
But then, Stone had professed that worry during the Boundary-search flight, too.
"And yes, I got the same message. Our warner didn't seem to want to use video or text, though - maybe audio was all he could access?"

"Us geeks gotta stick together~"
This was a different thing to be worried about. For them all to be connected in some way meant there was something in common, though she had yet to see the similarity from those she'd talked to yet.
"Audio would make sense if he was chasing animals about - certainly it'd be more convenient than trying to do something else when running about. I got here a bit too late to try to figure out who sent out the warning, too. There were already quite a few people here rounding animals up."

"We didn't hear anyone in the background, though - perhaps he found a quiet place on the property?"
Which did, admittedly, seem unlikely.
"Though, in all the chaos, I doubt anyone would have seen him sneak off."
