Need a Little Sun [Video/Log]

Video
[As the video begins to record, Nel has one arm extended forward to hold her phone as far as she can reach away from her face and high enough to get a mild downward angle. Seated in the backyard at her house, evidence of her practicing with her powers is behind her with a vibrant garden patch as her backdrop. The preteen uses her other hand to wave with a smile that holds eager anticipation.]
Good morning everyone!
Walter and I have been talking. We think it'd be nice for everyone to get together like we did at the meeting, but this time we'll do it just to have fun! We've planned a whole picnic, but we haven't been able to decide where it would be best to go. We agree someplace out of the way or secluded might be nice, and that way, everyone can come and ditch the disguises.
The edge of the east side of the forest might give us a good place to go, but that's pretty far out of the way. Does anyone else know of a good spot?
Oh, and what day would be best for everyone? We don't want anyone stuck working!

As promised, with the weather warmer and the sun keeping a steady presence to make for a comfortable afternoon, Nel finally has the opportunity to explore the reaction she has with water. With the portion of her family without Numbers otherwise occupied, she had helped carry the empty wading pool out into the backyard where no one can see it without entering the backyard itself. Sporting her bathing suit, she brings an armful of towels to set in a chair nearby, and a potted plant from upstairs that could use a little attention with a second trip inside. The wading pool is filled with only a couple centimeters deep of water, as that will provide enough for her to get wet laying down while saving as much space as possible in the pool to catch the expected runoff from her hair.
She stands at the edge of the pool for a pause once everything is in order. Patiently, Nel has waited for this chance for months, and she doesn't want to squander it. Stepping out of her flip flops, she enters the pool standing with focus on the water. Nothing happens as expected, in the same way wetting her hands does not evoke a reaction. Slowly, she lowers down to one knee, then the other. Still nothing, even as the tips of her hair slip under the surface and begin to spread apart over the thin layer of water. One hand goes under the water, then the other. Bit by bit, she rolls herself sideways towards laying down, and even laying on one side is not quite enough. Then finally as she rolls onto her back, the warmth she carries in her chest gives way to the the expected coolness that rushes through her veins as water mantles over her hair as it turns shimmering blue. Squealing at the yet unfamiliar sensation, she sits herself up out of the water in a hurry, and laughs as the heavy curtain of water follows to her back and over her shoulders.
"Found it!" she declares with humor.

Can we?! Oh I’d love that! When can we go, Grandpa?
no subject
How about this weekend? Unless we wind up having a picnic this weekend, in which case, next weekend.
no subject
Do you want to get up early and go? [Nel is not quite a morning person usually, but she will get up before the sun when something exciting is coming.]

Skipping on ahead a ways... [Video] to [Action]
[A discussion is had regarding the planned outing. A handful of days later, her grandfather is over for the night and up in the morning with an eager girl wide awake. Nel enjoys watching out the car window as her grandfather drives, but the real excitement comes out when he parks and turns off the vehicle.
Unbuckled from her seat in back, Nel hops down from the seat and closes the door behind herself. Immediately she runs out ahead to scout for a good spot, but stays within range of talking without yelling.]
Grandpa, do you see a good spot where I can put it? I don’t want it to get damaged or too dry after we’re gone.
no subject
If you're looking for somewhere with water, maybe in that dip in the hill over there? Water'd be more likely to gather downhill after it rains, right?
[He's not really great with plants, but it seems logical?]
no subject
That’ll be perfect!
[Nel hops her way forward into a run to the valley in the ground. Once she reaches it, she inspects the ground itself, moving this way or that and occasionally checking on the position of the sun. She steps up the hill partway, back down, and upwards again repeatedly until she settles a couple paces from the very bottom of the hill. Turning her attention to the wind, she moves a little right, far to the left, and right two steps before she feels satisfied. There isn’t anything particular guiding her, simply a gut feeling this would be the right spot.
Waiting until her grandfather is with her at the chosen location, she asks.]
This is where the tree will live. What kind of tree should it be?
no subject
[He's vaguely fond of oaks, with their spreading branches. They made for good climbing, back in New York, when he was still young enough to climb trees.
And also, not an alien plant. That makes it better than some of her other options.]
no subject
Okay Grandpa, I’m going to give it my all!
[Words meant as a measure of caution to keep a modest bit of distance from the spot, Nel drops to kneel on only one knee as she plants both her hands flat to the ground. Her gold colored gaze fixates on the space beneath her hands as she takes a steadying breath to focus and draws the warmth out of her chest towards her hands. Pouring a steady stream of that magical energy from her chest downward as her hair washes green, the ground cracks open as a sprout shoots upwards rapidly. As the sapling climbs upwards towards the sky with leaves bursting out in increasing numbers while branches begin to stretch in various directions, Nel rises to stand with her hands hovering close to the tree and her hair beginning to drift upwards. It grows and grows, shade passing over the girl in the process and even spreading to cover over her grandfather if he has stayed near. As the tree finally slows in claiming its space in the world, it shudders to a halt towering somewhere over 6 meters in height.
Concentration ending, Nel cranes back her head to stare upwards into the pristine branches of the tree. The bark under her hands is clean of any moss or signs of weathering, the tree in perfect health. She stares only a moment before she laughs in glee.
Seconds after, and she wilts forward to slide down to the ground leaning on the tree she made for support. Fatigue dims her voice, hair falling back to the whim of gravity as the green gradually begins to fade.]
I...I did it! Haha...I made...made a whole oak tree...! Grandpa, look...!
no subject
That sure is an oak tree. You couldn't have stopped at a sapling?
[If he has to carry her home, they're in for some trouble. He doesn't have Raksuran strength yet here.]
no subject
His reaction makes her snicker.]
I could have...but where’s the fun in that?
no subject
The fun of not making yourself almost pass out.
[He says it dryly, not like he's worried or anything.]
Also, it might draw more attention, being this big, if anybody comes out this way.
no subject
I used to feel this way a lot. Growing a single flower would make me feel like this...but a nap always set me right.
[The concern about the tree makes her look upwards into the branches.]
...I thought we came out here cause no one else does.
no subject
Just because people don't come out here a lot doesn't mean nobody ever does. It's not like I keep a close watch on weird patches of hillside. And I'd expected a smaller tree.
[He huffs, and ruffles her hair.]
It'll probably be fine. I'm just worried about you over-doing it.
