Don't pet them, grab them! [Mingle]

I.

In the afternoon on the 25th, a network message alerts the Numbered to the fact that the petting zoo in Moss Manor's Menagerie is facing a major break-out: Someone has torn down the fences, and all the bunnies, sheep, and all the other animals typically found in petting zoos have decided to book it. They are now swarming the manor's grounds.

Due to the staff being nowhere near enough to catch them all, and due to the generally low threat level of the animals that escaped, visitors are asked to help catch them instead of being sent away.

And anyone who just happens to show up and help will be happily welcomed and included in the fort, without any question of who told them that help is needed.

II.

Afterwards, Lady Margaret Camilla Brassant invites everyone onto her patio and offers refreshments - tea, water, little sandwiches, cake and scones with clotted cream and jam. She retires quickly herself, but not before giving a brief speech thanking everyone who helped save the gardens from hungry mouths.

A quick bus journey and Sadie found herself at Moss Manor. The house itself was large and grand in the manner that all old country manors were, and any other time Sadie would have wanted to poke around.

However, today she was going to be involving herself in the moderate pandemonium because animals. Waving to a very stressed member of staff she sets off around the grounds, time to see what animals she can find...

After a bit of poking around she will find a frightened dwarf goat.

Or rather, the goat will find her, barrelling towards her with the single-minded determination that being frightened out of one's mind causes. The cause of this fright might not be immediately visible, but it is certainly audible - loud, agitated barking somewhere behind the poor animal. Perhaps Chad wouldn't have this effect normally, but the goat is confused anyway about all the commotion, and he's absolutely going to take advantage of this. Helping out everyone by herding the animals! Towards people who can catch them. Clearly there is no flaw in this plan.

Sadie could certainly hear the dog barking, it was why she had ventured off in that direction in the first place.

The funny thing about goats is that they're very fast, and dwarf goats are no different really. So there wasn't much Sadie could do when the goat came barrelling towards her. The impact between goat and girl knocks Sadie clean over backwards, momentum causing said goat to land on top of her.

Head smacking against the hard-baked ground, it's more reaction than anything that has her wrapping her arms tightly around the frightened goat, earning her a hoof or two to the stomach for her troubles.

"Owww, my head!" She starts trying to shush the goat, "Shhhh sshhh! There's a good goat. Calm down. Shhhhhh."

Chad almost barrels into them as well, only diverting his path to the side at the last moment. It worked! A human go this one.

Sweet. He returns and circles around them, barking some more in victory and for good measure.

The goat had started to calm a teeny-tiny bit renewed its panicking as the dog starts barking again. Sadie clamps her grip tighter as the goat wriggles harder and tilts her head to try and look at the dog.

"Good boy, you can stop barking now." She gets another hoof in side. "Please stop barking"

Surprisingly, he seems to understand her without an issue. Or at least reacts in a way that complies with them. Maybe it's just by chance?

Instead, he just sits down and watches her, feeling like the praise could have been more enthusiastic but pleased that it came at all. He is the best boy, everyone should know that.

"Thank you." Sadie tells the dog, relief that he seemed to follow instructions evident in her tone.

She glanced down at the small goat, it's eyes were wide and its chest was heaving but it wasn't struggling or kicking her any more which was good. Although getting up with her hands full was not going to be graceful...

It was not graceful at all, but eventually Sadie is standing upright with her sunglasses still firmly on her face. She pets the goat who seems to have decided it didn't actually mind her holding it.

"Where do I put you now?"

He's about to leave as she seems to have the situation under control when she asks her question and instead shoots around her, barking again to get her attention.

Back to the area where they used to be! He's sure that should be right, even if the fence is still down someone should be there who has an answer...

Sadie glances down at the fluffy white dog as it races around her, runs a bit away, stops, and then barks at her again.

"Yes boy? Do you want me to follow you?" She steps towards the dog, maybe he was trying to take her to his owner?

He barks at her and then walks a couple of steps.

Obviously he's trying to make her follow him. Because he knows how to deal with this. Sheesh.

"Okie dokie, I'm coming! Show me where you want me to go!"

She follows after the dog properly now, a part of her very much wondering why she has ended up in this predicament.

She looks at the back of the dog, "You're a bit noisy but you are cute."

He's not noisy! He gives her an indignant look but then continues to walk.

...He's not sure about the cute. It's applied to him sometimes and a good thing, technically, but he's starting to get the feeling that there are nuances attached to the word that are perhaps less good. She clearly doesn't mean it malicously though, so he'll not think too much on it.

For now, she's at least following him, and that's what he aimed for.

And he will indeed lead her back to the enclosure, where a few workers are busy putting up makeshift barriers to create an area to safely keep the animals in.

Sadie lets out a sigh of relief when the dog leads her to the enclosure and she can hand the dwarf goat off to the harried looking staff, it had started trying to chew on her linen shirt collar about halfway through the walk and Sadie wanted to leave shirt intact.

Goat deposited she turns around and crouches down gesturing to the dog, "Thank you for your help, you're a very clever boy."

Of course he is a clever boy. He is, indeed, the cleverest boy out there.

And her beckoning can only mean one thing, he presumes: Congratulatory pets. There's absolutely no reason to refuse them, so he proudly walks over towards her.

Sadie laughs a little as the small dog walks over to her, pride clear in every tiny, adorable step and she can't help but coo as she finally gets to pet the Pomeranian's incredibly soft fur.

"Oh my you're so soft! What a wonderful clever, soft boy you are! Yes! Yes you are!" She gives him a good, thorough scratching as thanks, and searches for a collar as she does so.

There is, indeed, a collar. It even includes a phone number and an address - or rather, the words "Trattoria Tarabotti, Castle Street, Mossgate".

Chad only half notices her search, too pleased with the praise and scritches, his tail wagging at twenty miles an hour.

"Oh!" Sadie knows the restaurant, she's walked past it frequently but never gone inside. That might have to change now that she knows that such an adorable pupper lives there

She continues to administer her skilful scratches and pets. "We should get you back to your family doggo, we don't want someone mistaking you for a petting zoo animal do we boy?!"

He barks once, and then a few times more for good measure. Why would anyone mistake him for a petting zoo animal?

Plus he's pretty sure that he could find the person that he came here with again. ...Assuming they haven't left yet. In which case he'd absolutely be out of luck because he can impossibly walk that far back and not get lost.

Sadie giggles and leans forward to give the dog a kiss on top of his head, he really is adorable, and fluffy, and so small...

"Seeing as you're so clever can you lead me to your owners, they must be worried to have lost such a wonderful dog?" More scratches ensue. "You could get hurt by all the bigger animals and then I'd be sad!"

But he's helping! And he's not going to be hurt because he is much more intelligent and can recognize things as doors that they can't!

He barks in offence. Rude, he can totally help. (It would probably help his message if he didn't bark almost constantly no matter what the current mood is.)

Sadie scoops Channing up as the dog continues to yap away.

"Come on you, let's get you back to your family."

The yapping continues. He can help! He doesn't need to be carried! And besides, he can find his own way!

Sadie laughs as Chad continues to yap and boops his snoot before giving him a kiss on the head. Gosh, he was adorable.

"Home time for you!"

The yapping eventually alerts an Italian looking (and sounding - he has quite a strong accent) man who seems quite relieved to find the white fuzzball.

"I've been looking for him," he explains.

Chad is disappointed. This is not his favourite distant cousin. He puts him on a leash way too often.

Sadie smiles genially at Chad's owner. "He must have got mixed up with all the confusion. He ended up helping me collect an escaped goat."

She gives the top of Chad's head a kiss before handing back over. "He's very sweet, I'm glad I was able to find you."
