"Just that way, yeah," Feste says, gesturing towards the direction they were heading, "I can go backwards. Not just like... walking backwards. I can turn around." Their mum got confused about that.
"So there is something about the road that isn't on the pavements..." Q'uila circles about Feste, examining the ground closely.
"There really isn't anything different..."Her boots crunch on the grit and she pauses, "Wait,,, the pavements haven't been gritted but the road has..." Sadie scoops up a load of the grit and dumps it in a line on the pavement behind Feste.
Feste gives her an odd look, because... that can't be it, can it? It's so... weird. But they'll listen, and try it, and... they walk perfectly fine on to the road now.
"Holy shit." Sadie is almost as stunned as Feste, "We need to make sure that I'm correct, please could you try and walk across where I dumped the grit just to doublecheck that it is the grit that was stopping you?"
"It's the grit. You can't cross because of the grit." She glances back up at them, "When the Echo triggered, you must have been thinking or doing something related to the grit, the effect that the Echo has almost always linked closely to something you were saying or doing at the time."
"The other question is, what sort of person is physically stopped by salt?"
"I don't know!" Feste nearly whines, dragging their hands down their face. This makes no sense, they don't know what's going on and it's... very disconcerting. They're not always the most on top of their life, but this is taking a bit far!!!
Double checking that there is no oncoming traffic Sadie starts scraping grit out of the way using her boots. It takes a bit for Sadie to make a path wide enough for Feste to easily walk along but it's soon ready.
"Try that." Sadie watches Feste's progress carefully ready to step in if there's an issue.
