Scraps of [Video] and [Text]
Date: June 17th, 2018, 1:46 AM
Characters: Walter Weekes, though all other characters will see is just a long string of numbers.
[It's not a very long video - just a man staring at the screen, typing at a rate that can be heard if anyone's using a device that includes audio. Someone's put their Number into a separate window without realizing it! Or rather, without realizing it's more than just an annoyingly persistent stream of numbers that's messing up his coding.]
[The typing abruptly stops, there's a quiet, quick muttering of, "and SAVED, thank god-"]
[Then his eyes flicker over to the other window... and a look of horror dawns on his face as this isn't supposed to be a browser! The screen - presumably a laptop - gets slammed shut.]
[Only for, moments later, text to pop up instead. Just the same string of Numbers, several times in a row, before that feed is discontinued as well.]
[The next few minutes consist of several feeds - a mix of texts and videos, one of which is clearly coming through a mirror, before culminating in one simple written word:]
Hallucination???

This makes five, including myself. Though I have to ask if you could do us all a favor and recount exactly what methods you used.
[Text]
Still, it's several hours before there's a response - someone managed to pass out, it seems.]
Started out cut+pasting it into Paint, of all things. Then it was regular notebook paper.
Think I tried my phone, next. Might have ruined the TV in trying to write it on its screen.
Went through a bunch of sticky notes after that - doesn't seem to matter what you write with, either.
I may have written on the wall with pencil as well. VERY embarrassing, that one. And after that I tried the mirror.
I'm back with the notebook paper right now, though I really want to have a crack at how secure this thing is next, and I'll need my laptop for that.
[And somehow, Walter's not sure blocking the webcam is going to cut it.
And then a question occurs to him:]
Do you remember any hollowness?
text
That's interesting. Someone got it through the TV.
[a pause]
I do. At the northern lights.
Re: text
[It seems to vary depending on who uses what... on the one hand, there may be endless combinations! On the other, even if he knows now it's not a hallucination, it still feels Very Sketchy.]
How many of us were there,
or is?Nevermind.
[He was going to ask "Is there a way to check," but that sounds silly in retrospect and wow is it good to be able to think as fast as he writes again.]
no subject
Three communicated with me, one or two of which I knew. Plus you and me makes five.
[Text]
Anything else we have in common, apart from being at the fireworks?

Re: [Text]
last nightearlier this morning, so he just goes back and circles it.Cheeky.]
I don't think any of us have the same number, at any rate.

Re: [Text]
[And now, a new question: can he be 'logged in' to this Network on two devices at once? Either way, Walter's gonna do his best to multitask.]
Maybe there's records of strange things like this happening after the last aurora? Not that they'd be anywhere public.
[That, or the date itself was significant, in which case its significance is lost on him.]

Re: [Text]
[Still, the question makes him smile - and then, after running one of his many tools-of-the-trade, that smile quickly turns into a frustrated frown.]
This Network isn't even detectable, looks like. That's just wild.
[There'll be a few more minutes of quiet as Walter goes through all he has in his arsenal, but that conclusion seems pretty solid.]
[Text/voice]
"Oh for f- It's too late for this." he says aloud to himself. He'd managed to absentmindedly write the number again.
Can we please not do this right now I'm so tired.
[Text]
How about we both go to bed, and then if this still exists when we wake up, then we panic?
Re: [Text]
no panic. only sleep.
Re: [Text]
[And that's the last he manages to get out.]
