[Log] Ready Players 1 - 5

It had taken a rather frank conversation aided by some cat petting at the Summer Fete but Sadie and Walter had decided that a break and a distraction from the changes that had started to be brought on by the Numbers and the Aurora was needed, something that everyone could enjoy despite their differing age brackets. It hadn't taken them long to come up with the perfect solution:

The Town Arcade.

Games, machines, and Air Hockey galore! There was something for everyone in their small, motley crew to enjoy there. Sadie was obviously bringing Ben in an attempt to make up for the failed day of relaxation that was the sailing trip, and to get his mind of his new dental arrangement and complimentary memory. Walter had mentioned bringing his roomate.

With a bit of back and forth around schedules, a date and time was set. And so, on the 14th August, the four descended on the local arcade.

You two are not helping your cases, you do know that, right?

"To be fair, it's not like that assumption is mandatory," Walter points out - and then grins.

"Though that doesn't make how you two react to each other any less adorable."

He looks slightly abashed after a second, realizing what he's said.

"What he said," Russell says, gesturing to Walter with a thumb - before briefly turning the thumb up, with a quick wink.

Maybe it's not that, and they're just easily embarrassed. With skin conditions, that really bring the blood to the surface. There's all sorts of explanations

"But!" He pulls on a full theatrical cadence for a minute, exaggerated Shakespearean enunciation, to distract everyone from Sadie and Ben's reactions or Walter's comment, "Far be it from we, elderly men without a clue, to ruin the outing before it begins. No more teasing, just good fun... For now."

Sadie's face is still blazing and she treats Walter and Russell to an ultimately harmless glare. "Both of you are evil." Comes her damning indictment, the effect utterly ruined because it was Sadie.

Pulling together her dignity Sadie takes Russell's out. "So, I was thinking we try and get the high score on everything in the arcade."

His own explanation dismissed and the label of adorable combined are enough to rouse a groan from Benjiro as his free hand comes up to cover over his eyes and nose in a facepalming gesture.

Stop.

That hand slides down, lingering at his collarbone as focus shifts to the evening plans. He glances sideways to Sadie at her suggestion for a goal, sneaking a subtle squeeze to her hand, “Shouldn’t be too difficult. I can handle the first person shooters.”
