[Log] Ready Players 1 - 5

It had taken a rather frank conversation aided by some cat petting at the Summer Fete but Sadie and Walter had decided that a break and a distraction from the changes that had started to be brought on by the Numbers and the Aurora was needed, something that everyone could enjoy despite their differing age brackets. It hadn't taken them long to come up with the perfect solution:

The Town Arcade.

Games, machines, and Air Hockey galore! There was something for everyone in their small, motley crew to enjoy there. Sadie was obviously bringing Ben in an attempt to make up for the failed day of relaxation that was the sailing trip, and to get his mind of his new dental arrangement and complimentary memory. Walter had mentioned bringing his roomate.

With a bit of back and forth around schedules, a date and time was set. And so, on the 14th August, the four descended on the local arcade.

Walter makes a face.

"Yeah, these games are much more needy than regular computers."

Yes, he actually said that.

[spaghettimonster]

"That's... a bit of a strange thing to say, uh..."

Russell trails off, thinking it through, as he finalizes the top score. N O B stands proud above the rest.

"That's how they get your money," he finally decides. "Can't get away, you have to replay."

Walter has some of my conversational idiosyncrasies. XD

Walter just nods.

"'S why I don't splurge on these places much - though they are fun, all the same."

Fair, it's hard to escape having at least a little leakage

Russell pats the machine affectionately, and winds around to join Walter at whatever needy game it is he's playing. Or, no longer playing, if he looked up to talk long enough that he lost.

"Then we should make the most of this visit. Find my cousin and ask, play some more games, eat some food... Regret it all tomorrow."

The 'Asteroids' game Walter was playing has resumed its title screen theme music.

"As long as there's no hangover in the mix," he replies, tapping the joystick.

"You want a go at this one after talking to Ben?"

"Those bullet hell games give me a headache..."

So many things, moving around and attacking him. It'd take a lot of focus to do well enough at that to leave a high score, and he's not quite confident.

Still, he sighs and nods. "But, I'll give it a go. One try, maybe two."

"This one's goes easy on the flash, though."

Cheers for small miracles, and all that.

"Hey, no pressure. Unless you want to make it a challenge," Walter says, looking at Russell curiously.

He hmms at the reassurance, and shrugs.

"Well... I kind of want to fill all the highest scores," he explains, as if that's any explanation at all. "Between all of us."

As strange a reason as it may be, Walter gets it and nods.

"And have them all say the same name?"

[spaghettimonster]

"Well," Russell hedges again, "or a related theme. Picking just one, with a group of people..."

There's sayings about a group of people having more opinions than people that applies here.
