One day, all Numbered will find a little letter in their post. The envelope is neatly addressed to them, and there's even a stamp on it, though it is not postmarked.

Inside, it reads:

"I need to meet you all. It is very important. Would you come to the old ruins on the Greens in the afternoon of the 2nd? I requested everyone else's presence as well.

If you have any questions, please call me under [follows a regular mobile phone number].

Sincerely,

Mr Helpful."

[Well, that's absolutely getting a phone call. Sam plugs it into his cell phone, adds it to his contacts, and rings the guy up. Or whatever Mr. Helpful is.]

Good morning, how can I help you?

[Someone tell him he sounds like a customer service number.]

You sound like you should be in customer service.

This is Sam Stone. We talked before about how helpful or not helpful you are, and I just got your letter.

[Is that bad? He isn't sure, but it's said like it is...]

I simply said it how I meant it.

And yes, I remember that. Will you be coming?

I want to know more first. You might want to be helpful, but your definition of it isn't always right.

What is all this about? And who all is "everyone else"?

Mr Evil is quite obviously having very troublesome plans, but I am uncertain what they are, and cannot combat them by myself at this point.

And I asked all those who have turned a bit unusual recently, yes?

Okay, I'm fine to help out with Mr Evil, since the last times he had plans he set off a bomb and then left everybody coal for Christmas, but we've got to talk about this "turned a bit unusual" thing.

You're right, but I want to know how you know, and what you know about it. We're all very in the dark about this shit.

I'm sorry, I know very little beyond being able to identify those who are a bit unusual, or have the potential for it.

There is a certain ...difference. [A pause, and then he sounds even more apologetic.] But I cannot describe the nature of the difference. I just can describe that it is there.

Hrm.

[Sam considers that a moment.]

Who exactly are you people, Mr. Helpful? You know more about all this mess than any of us. Did you start off like us, or have you always been different?

[saveournpcs]

Ah, no, I am different. I am a... how do you describe it best? A watcher. Or I should be. But with Mr Evil going the way he did... I could not keep watching.

[scarsolderthanyou]

[Something of a relief, then. Sort of. It does open up a lot more questions, but he's going to have to think of how best to ask them to get a response that's not vague and unhelpful. (Ironic.)]

Anyone who tries to help instead of just watching is okay by me. All right, I'll be there. Anything I should know before I get there?

If you encounter Mr Evil in the meanwhile, please do not approach him.

All else, I think, won't be late if I tell you about it when we meet.

You think that's likely? We don't see either of you around all that much, anyway.

[saveournpcs]

You don't?

[Huh.]

Well, either way, please stay away from him even if you should encounter him.

[Sam is always on the lookout for their scent, okay. If they were around a lot, he'd notice. Unless they hide their scent somehow.]

What do you think he's likely to do if I don't? Last time I ran into him, all he did was get snarky and then disappear on me.

I cannot tell, honestly. He is acting in ways that I could not have predicted.

All I know is that his name should be taken seriously.

All your names are hard to take seriously. But I'll try.

Are you able to tell us what you need help with just yet, or will it be easier to explain once we're all there?

It will be much easier to explain once you're there.

And more believable as well, I fear. It is all a bit... outrageous, so to speak.

[Walter thinks better of uttering a sarcastic reply.]

Is there any equipment we should bring along?

Or any we definitely shouldn't?

[He's thinking of a 'no pictures' policy, here.]

I cannot think of anything, no. Unless you have good binoculars, in which case, bring them.

[So they'll be watching a place, or a person... Possibly.

Either way, Walter will be capable even without binoculars, with what he's got now.]

Can you ensure that no one will be paying attention to the gathering? Or at least that we will be able to leave on our own at any point after showing up?

Anyone will be able to leave at any point at their own volition and by their own means.
