The scenery had been a comfort the last time he came, and even then he knew this would be an ideal location for other times to travel barely beyond the reach of the Numbers. Seeing Sadie taking a moment to enjoy it assures him of that, even before she voices her approval. To that, he smiles, “I did a lot of wandering that day, but I haven’t explored the other stretches along the circumference west of Moss Manor.”
With Sadie tending to what goes below the cover, he has the poles and tarps arranged by the time she has everything else unloaded and sorted into place. He lifts the shield and plants the four corners down in alignment with the corners of the blanket into the ground. One tarp makes the top that spreads equally on all sides, while the second comes under the first and down the length around two of the four poles like a wall with flaps falling into the space of two other sides. That wall is set against the wind to prevent rain spraying in under the top cover.
He is already half soaked from the drive, but that’s why they have a dry blanket along.
As Sadie makes the decision, Benjiro turns to face her directly with voice lowered to mind her hearing as he steps up in front of her, “If you think that’s best, then that’s alright with me. I know you’re nervous too.” He reaches to take her hands, bringing them up and together in his as he smiles to her, still anxious but determined, “Just remember, I love you. That won’t change for anything.”
